The Lazy Business

The “Lazy” Way to Make Money with Information Products.

Ok, well, it’s not really the “lazy” way, but I thought this comment would get your attention!

If you are running a business, you already know that it requires hard work. After all, any business worth having is hard work. But there are certain types of work at home businesses that once you get started, they can be put on “autopilot”. One of the very first work at home opportunities I ever bought into consisted of a 200 page book on “How to Make Money Writing How To Books”. This was in the summer of 1989, when I bought my first information product and had some big ideas about how I was going to strike it rich on the Internet. This was also the time when I had just had my first child and had begun looking for something to do at home while I was caring for my newborn.

When I received the book, and read it, it was very useful information. However at that time it required having to write at least 200 page books (anything less than that is not officially a book), have it published which required sourcing a reliable printer. The idea of writing, editing, printing, binding and then shipping a book gave me a real headache.

Although I chose not to pursue this particular business idea at that time; it was beneficial in that it did give me some ideas about the possibilities of doing something similar in the future.

Information Product

Fast forward to today:  Information products have become the most marketable items online. People are actually making a ton of money by selling their eBooks and other information products. Just Google any subject and you will land on a sale page about an e-book (electronic book).

Now here’s an opportunity where you can use what you know and create an information product you can sell online! So how can you take advantage of this and start earning some money like a “lazy” person?

Take a look at your hobbies, your interests, places you’ve traveled to, things you’ve learned – just about anything that might help someone else and that they might like to learn more about. Remember, you just want to sell the information you know. Then start writing down some of these things and start working on an eBook on one of these topics or a set of related topics. For example, you might want to write an eBook about knitting. Start talking about why knitting is beneficial, how to get started, some basic techniques and ways to make money by knitting home-made scarves. Do you get the general idea?

If this sounds like this might be for you, then you owe it to yourself to learn everything about this kind of business. You can start making money based on the things you already know about – wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Alice Seba is one of the people I admire most for developing a thriving online business selling her own line of information products. Alice wrote an excellent eBook on the subject of writing eBooks themselves, drawn from her knowledge and years of experience. If this kind of business interests you, then reading her e-book is a must.

What if this isn’t for you?

If creating an information product yourself and marketing it is somewhat daunting to you, then have no fear. You can still make money the “lazy” way by promoting other people’s information products instead! Simply become an affiliate reseller for their eBooks and have links on your website promoting them. But keep in mind, for you to be successful at promoting other people’s products; you have to come across as genuine. You have to still know what you are talking about and have the passion for that subject matter. In other words, if you believe in the information products that others have, then this will be evident from the tone of your website. All you have to do is have a blog and write about your passion, share your knowledge and then promote other peoples product at the same time.

Sounds easy? Well, it is! This is called affiliate marketing and you can find out more about this type of business opportunity by reading “What is Affiliate Marketing & How Can I Make Money?”
